I’m an extremely adventurous, intense, competitive, and overly positive individual. Yet, I am who I am for a particular reason, and that reason is not what many would expect.
Over the years one of the most common questions I’ve been asked is how I am so motivated to always be on the go. Always trying new things, meeting new people, and cultivating new experiences… a lot of times from scratch. They ask me HOW I do it, and WHAT keeps me inspired to continue to do so.
The truth is, it has very little to do with how or what, and way more to do with WHY.
Motivated by Death
I’m going to DIE. You are going to DIE. We all are going to DIE. In fact, there are two things that literally connect all of us walking around…we were born, and we are walking towards our imminent death. Every step is literally one step closer.
I think about it almost every day. Because I think of death so often, I’m forced to decide in every single moment… “is this how I want to spend my time breathing, moving, connecting, working, spending my energy on this earth?”
Sadly, today we have so many distractions around that we almost forget that our time on earth is not guaranteed. I see it while I walk down the street, I see it in the meetings that I have every day, I see it within my own group of family and friends. Why can’t they see it though?!
I want to keep this short and sweet because I’m way more focused on YOU, me, and everyone else taking action.
So let’s act!
To THRIVE this week I want you to think about your own death more. I want this to cause you to be more intentional with every step you take, every word you speak, and every minute you are granted on this earth. If you do this, you will strive to stop hanging around negative people, places, and experiences. Only accept the best, stop settling!
This week I am practicing all of the above by attending Austin Social Media week with a lifelong friend of mine. It’s costing me time, money, and energy….yet it is exactly what I want to be doing. Are you doing exactly what you want to be doing this week?! If not it’s time to ACT. You can change it, you can be positive, and you can THRIVE.
